If I need you, I'll just use your simple name
Only kisses on the cheek from now on
And in a little while, we'll only have to wave"
My day started off with bad services from 3 different people. One was this NTUC Careerlink consultant who kept interrupting me while I was talking. You see, I just got a new job, and NTUC is giving me some money for staying with the job. Its not like I need it, but its money or in the Islamic term, we call it rezeki. So they asked me for my payslip, this and that, and guess what, they misplaced it lah. I came all they way from Pasir Ris to Marina Boulevard to do that, and they asked me to come over there again and pass it to them, with the typical Singapore slang, "Sorry lor, come again lor, or cannot process!". They agreed to help, but then treat us like beggars. So after a phone confrontation with the lady, we agreed to fax over the documents. Simple right. Pkm betul. And I hate being interrupted when talking...
Then it was Coffee Bean, the barista just placed my drink without calling out my name. Then why the hell you ask for my initial for? But the last straw was at Nokia Centre. I had to wait 35 minutes to collect my phone, which was really annoying and the customer service girl was really bad, and ugly. If you're ugly and nice, its ok. But now you're not. She threw the pen on the table, never even smile, spoke to her friends, held out her hands and asked for my IC, while still talking to her friend, then she asked me to sign some papers and then she pulled the paper below lah, destroying my signature. I straight away told her off saying that her customer service sucks and with a very blur face, she didnt even said sorry. She only made a funny sound, like "hoooeeeeerrrrr!". Seriously, she sounded like a horse.
Anyway besides that, my day was alright. I went to help my poor Sab who had a lot of work to do at her office. Actually her job is very easy, and I dont understand why they need people with diploma to do it. Had McD for supper and then the two of us had a conversation about friends who are still looking for jobs, and not worried about the future. Then I started thinking about all the jobs I've ever done, and how I'm super grateful for this Ikea job now. Come to think about it, I've worked as, (in random order btw)...
- Baggage Assistance - almost 2 years (ahh the good old times)
- Coffee Bean Barista - 4 months
- SATs Special Service - 1 year plus (when I met Ali BFF, haha!)
- Cheers - 8 months (Lan and I grew close)
- Downtown East cleaner - 1 weeks (I drove the garbage cart btw, gerek!)
- Data Entry @ Changi Cargo - 3 weeks
- Siam Kitchen crew - 8 hours
- Burger King - 3 days
- Airport Cleaner - 2 days (I met a friend, and she gave me the look. Yes the ewww look! haha!)
- Watch Salesman - 2 weeks (my mentor was hot btw)
- CIAS Customer Service - 3 months (had to pay $1,2k fine for breaking contract)
- Spinelli Barista - 2 months (fought with Su. Haha!)
- Inroom Dining @ Fullerton - 2 month
- Fir Iqbal Seafood - 1 year plus (the job that taught me a lot of things)
- The Cathay aka Kachang Puteh Man - 3 months (worst pay)
NOW! - Ikea Restaurant, Asst Supervisor - 5 months
I know I have more, haha, but these are the ones I can remember vividly. I always have interesting stories behind every job. Haha! Job hopping is bad, but I feel like it somehow taught me a few lessons here and there. My honest advice is stick to one, and have savings. I wish I started early.
Anyway, my show yesterday was aight. Not what I expected it to be, but I had fun.
Its funny how people can make a stranger to family, and family to a stranger in an instant.
